The first ESSMA Summit was organized by the European Stadium & Safety Management Association in cooperation with event partners ECA, EPFL and the ICSS. This two-day summit took place on January 27th & 28th in the Allianz Arena located in Munich. More than 220 participants from over 25 different countries were present to experience stadium tours, keynote speakers, 9 different workshops and intensive networking.

ESSMA were recently invited by Mr Jeff Cards - Ground Superintendent at Marylebone Cricket Club, to visit Lord’s Cricket Ground in order to officialise the first cricket ground in the world to become an ESSMA member, another milestone in the growth of the association and the Club.

The Jan Breydel Stadium is the venue of two Belgian first division teams. First of all you have Club Brugge and secondly there is Cercle Brugge. It was in the mid seventies that Club Brugge moved from the Albert Dyserynck Stadium to the Olympia Stadium, what is now called the Jan Breydel Stadium. ESSMA was invited by Ms Dagmar Decramer, who is the Operations Manager at Club Brugge KV.

Year after year, the Bundesliga improves financial results, with an increase in advertising, media receipts and match day revenues. As the German League association declares in their Bundesliga report, the stadium infrastructure has a major economic impact.

The Euroborg is FC Groningen’s home ground and it became the successor of the former Oosterpark Stadium in 2006. The Euroborg is a multifunctional complex and next to the football matches there are several other activities taking place at the stadium.

Lagardère Unlimited, the sports and entertainment group of Lagardère, expanded their activities to Brazil. They were already active in selling media rights in South-America, but they now offer complete services in the domain of sports marketing. Together with their partner BWA they created LUArenas, a joint venture with activities dedicated to stadium and arena operation in Brazil.

With its new Groupama Arena, Ferencvárosi TC followed a trend that is daily business in the industry of stadiums and arenas nowadays. They did the same as Manchester City did with its Etihad Stadium, Arsenal with its Emirates Stadium and Bayern Munich with its Allianz Arena. All of them named their (new) stadium to their main sponsor. Nothing special you would say, but Ferencváros is the first Hungarian team to copy this phenomenon. An agreement for seven years was signed and next to this Groupama supports Ferencváros in its club development.

Karim Houari is the Stadium Manager of 'Stade de la Route de Lorient', home of French League 1 club Stade Rennais FC. Next to this he is also responsible for security management at the club. We talked to him to hear more about his tasks and projects at Stade Rennais and how the current situation in France is.

The Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo (Norway) is the home to both the Norwegian national football team and Valerenga IF. We interviewed Kjell Borgersen, Stadium Manager at the stadium to ask about the challenges of managing such a stadium. Ullevaal Stadium is a member of ESSMA thanks to the League Membership of Norsk Toppfotball.
