ESSMA interviewed Jan Nöker - Event Manager at 1. FSV Mainz 05 - and Stephan Bandholz – Stadium Manager at OPEL ARENA – about their safety department and our upcoming ESSMA Safety & Security Workshop. OPEL ARENA is the host venue of our 2019 Safety & Security Workshop on 8 and 9 October during which the club will share their best practices regarding bag policies and stewarding.

Sascha Dorsaz, an Alumnus of the FBA Professional Master in Football Business, about his experience from The FBA Stadium Tour to Barcelona, supported by ESSMA. The FBA, an ESMMA Partner, offers its students a Professional Master in Football Business with the objective to deliver them all the necessary tools and an optimal learning environment in order to succeed in the passionate and dynamic football industry.

Jon Babbs – Stadium Director at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – and Tom Jones – Senior Principal at POPULOUS – provided insights in the key aspects and facilities of the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as well as the design process during ESSMA’s Development & Operations Workshop. 

This year’s ESSMA Development & Operations Workshop took place in the brand-new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Over 90 ESSMA members from 16 countries joined us for our biggest workshop to date. During the two-day workshop, participants got the chance to share their knowledge about ongoing stadium development projects and enjoyed presentations on topics covering multifunctional use, playing during renovation, community use and integrating technology in new venues.

Dan Sparks - Head Groundsman at Ashton Gate Stadium - focused on the multifunctional use of the Ashton Gate Stadium and the challenges for the grounds team during ESSMA’s Pitch Management Workshop.

St George’s Park was selected as the perfect host for the 2019 ESSMA Pitch Management Workshop because of their excellent reputation in the field of pitch management. As well as their remarkable business plan which sees the amenities being shared between professional sports teams and commercial guests, thereby ensuring year-round use of the facilities. Scott Brooks - Head Groundsman of St George’s Park - explained how they manage to balance the commercial use and use by professional sports teams while guaranteeing a high quality for all pitches on the premises.
