Read more on the sustainable approach of Tottenham Hotspur FC, stadium projects of PEC Zwolle and NK Osijek and improved fan experience at Leeds United FC and Crystal Palace FC in this short industry update by ESSMA.

Sustainability & SMART

  • Tottenham Hotspur FC will implement single-use plastic reduction measures at their new stadium as the club wants to minimise their single-use plastic footprint. Hence plastic straws, stirrers, cutlery, etc. will not be available anymore. Furthermore, all One Hotspur members of the 2018-19 season will receive a see-through Bag for Life so they can bring their bag along on matchday. The Bag for Life will simplify the stadium security and safety regulations at the stadium.

Construction & Development

  • PEC Zwolle announced the expansion of their MAC3PARK Stadium. 750 seats will be added creating a total stadium capacity of 14,000. The expansions will bring fans closer to the pitch and create an enhanced stadium experience. Furthermore, a stand for disabled visitors will be implemented next to the main stand.

  • A €35-40 million complex is planned for NK Osijek. The new stadium will hold a capacity of 12,000 with 7 skyboxes, covered by an auditorium. Outside the stadium, they will build 7 new pitches as well.

Fan Experience & Hospitality

  • Leeds United FC will team up with Uber to reduce congestion in and around Elland Road on matchday for a better travel experience. The club encourages fans to leave their car at home and use the Uber app to connect to public transport options.

  • Crystal Palace FC announced their partnership with GambleAware to address concerns about gambling-related harm within football. The initiative will produce advertisements to raise awareness around gambling during the last games of the season.

  • Twickenham Stadium is launching their #dreamwork campaign. One of the core values of the stadium is to attract more incentive events to the venue. Existing and new customers will be targeted with a variety of summer event packages both on and off the pitch.

  • The Amsterdam ArenA has officially changed its name to the Johan Cruijff ArenA and unveiled its new logo.
