ESSMA SMART & Sustainability Workshop at the Amsterdam ArenA

The European Stadium & Safety Management Association (ESSMA) will gather during the SMART & Sustainability Workshop. The event will be held in Amsterdam (Netherlands) from 18 to 19 April at the Amsterdam Arena.


Delegates will be welcomed by the Amsterdam ArenA team and shown around the Amsterdam ArenA with an ‘into the future’ stadium tour. Speakers from Arsenal FC, Amsterdam ArenA, Lord’s Cricket Ground, BASIS, etc. will share their insights and lead you through our two-day workshop.


Topics during this two-day workshop include energy storage, power supply, sustainability campaigns, reducing energy usage and more.

WhatESSMA SMART & Sustainability Workshop

Where: Amsterdam ArenA (Ajax AFC and Dutch national football team)

Goal: Acquire knowledge about how to make your stadium a smart stadium, sharing best practices involving energy storage and power supply, stadium industry networking and a behind-the-scenes stadium tour.

Amsterdam ArenA

The workshop will take place in the Amsterdam ArenA, home of Ajax AFC and the Dutch national football team. The multifunctional stadium was opened in 1996 after a construction period of three years and has a capacity of 53,748 seats and 144 extra seats for disabled fans with their companion. It is known for being the first stadium in Europe to have a retractable roof and is one of the most sustainable stadiums in the world.

The stadium hosted the Champions League final in 1998, several matches during EURO 2000 and the Europa League final in 2013.
