Newly-reconstructed Khalifa International Stadium equipped with Philips Lighting LED lights

On Friday 19 May the Khalifa International Stadium will host the 2017 Emir Cup final between long lasting rivals Al Rayyan and Al Sadd. It will be the first match played in the recent renovated stadium. The renovations were mandatory to host matches up to the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

New features are in full compliance with FIFA requirements and include an additional seating stand, the construction of a sports museum within the venue, the installation of innovative cooling technology and a LED sports lighting installation. The LED lighting installation, produced by ESSMA Stadium Partner Philips Lighting, will be one of the biggest in the world. The Khalifa International Stadium increased its capacity up to 40,000 seats.

According to project manager Mohamed Elamin Abdullah Ahmed, the energy-efficient lighting systems by Philips Lighting reduce costs and improve safety and crowd flow with well-lit areas in and around the stadium. He perceives LED lighting as the future of lighting. Furthermore, it enhances the spectator experience showcasing a variety of colours.
